About Our Department
Patients who need transfusion may be undergoing surgery, cancer treatment or intensive care, or may have anaemia, bleeding or other conditions affecting blood cells. The laboratory evaluates requests through blood grouping, antibody screening, infection testing and cross-matching before selecting the appropriate component. Pathways include red cell, platelet or plasma support, specialised components and urgent issue when clinically required. The department aims to provide the right blood product promptly while maintaining traceability, compatibility and rigorous safety at every stage.
