People may present with anxiety, depression, severe stress, sleep disturbance, substance use, unusual thoughts, behavioural change or difficulty functioning at home or work. Evaluation explores symptoms, physical health, medicines, personal circumstances and immediate safety, with psychological or laboratory assessment when useful. Treatment may include education, medication, individual or family therapy, addiction support, crisis planning and coordinated inpatient care for severe illness. The department aims to reduce symptoms, protect safety and help each person regain stability, relationships and meaningful participation in everyday life.
