Patients may present after injury or with persistent joint pain, swelling, stiffness, deformity, back problems, arthritis or difficulty walking and using a limb. Assessment includes musculoskeletal examination and appropriate X-ray, CT, MRI or laboratory investigations to identify the structure involved and severity of disease. Treatment can progress from medicines, immobilisation, injections and physiotherapy to fracture fixation, arthroscopy, joint replacement or corrective surgery. The department aims to relieve pain, heal injury and help each patient recover stable movement, mobility and independence.
